If there’s barbeque, jazz music or riverboat cruises, you can bet it’s Kansas City. Straddling the Missouri and Kansas state lines, Kansas City draws hordes of tourists every year looking for some backyard barbeque and hometown cooking amidst some of the most historical sites in our nation’s history. If booking flights to Kansas City is on your must-do travel list then plan ahead – there’s so much to do and see in this Midwest town, it’s hard to know where to begin.
Start your Kansas City trip with a bit of history. Back in the 1820s, Kansas City served as a departure point for covered wagons on their way west. Years later, Kansas City became home to our 33rd U.S. President Harry S. Truman, who was born just a stone’s throw away in Independence, Mo. Pick up a postcard in St. Joseph on your way to the historic Pony Express before heading to Liberty, Mo., where the Jesse James Bank Museum stands at the scene of the country’s first daylight bank robbery.
If you want a little more soul to your history lesson, grab your favorite CD and brush up on your jazz music during the flight to Kansas City. This Midwest-city located in the middle of plains and farmland saw the likes of Charlie Parker and Duke Ellington, who stopped in to play at the nightclubs. Before you head out for a jam session, grab yourself some good old fashioned barbeque at one of the 60 restaurants in the Kansas City area that offer the backyard specialty. Kansas City flights are packed with hungry travelers eager to lick their fingers on a plate of baby back ribs smothered with Kansas City’s famous barbeque sauce.
Located in the heart of the US Midwest region, Kansas City experiences the typical fluctuations in seasons, sometimes to the extreme. Kansas City sees lows of 26 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter and highs at 79 degrees Fahrenheit, on average. However, visitors booking flights to Kansas City in the middle of winter or the dead of summer should pack accordingly – there have been record temperatures of -40 degrees Fahrenheit and 118 degrees Fahrenheit. Snowfall is experienced throughout the state, with a higher average in the north, and the southeast experiencing the heaviest precipitation. Tornadoes are prevalent in spring.
Peak Season:
Families head to the Midwest hotspot during spring and summer school vacations. Be sure to book tours ahead of time if you’re traveling to Kansas City during the peak season. Many tour operators do add more daily tours to the top destinations, but you’ll need to reserve your spot in advance.
Off Season:
Fall and winter are the off-season in Kansas City, mainly due to the weather. School is back in session and the weather turns to a cold and wintry mix. However, this is when cheap flights to Kansas City and discounted hotel rooms are usually available.
